What is the Idaho Traffic Alerts service?

It is a ubscription-based notification service providing information from the Idaho Transportation Department’s 511 traveler information system. This information includes official road closures, commercial vehicle restrictions, crashes, roadwork, sporting/special events, weather conditions and winter road conditions.
Subscribers will be able to receive automated event notifications as selected types of traffic/travel events are entered or updated during time periods chosen by the subscriber. Subscribers choose specific areas and the times of day during which alerts are desired. Idaho Traffic Alerts distributes information in accordance with the subscriber’s selections stored in each individual subscriber’s profile(s).
Subscribers can update their account settings at any time to change personal details or their passwords, their subscription profiles or to end their alert/notification services completely.
ITD encourages drivers to pull off the road and park in a safe area before using cell phones, pagers and similar electronic devices!

Who can use this service?

Currently ITD has decided to limit the usage of this service. An administrative table grants access rights to authorized users and controls who can use the service.
This was developed for notification of road closures to Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) staff, law enforcement, public agencies and the media.
Distribution to the general public may be supported in the future if the ITD acquires additional server capacity and customer service resources to support the expected user demands.

On which roads does Idaho Traffic Alerts provide information?

Idaho Traffic Alerts is a statewide service and provides information on the interstates, U.S. routes and state highways in Idaho. It does not include business routes, county roads or city streets. The exceptions to this will be in the Treasure Valley/Boise metro area, where traffic information will be provided in partnership with the Ada County Highway District beginning in the spring of 2007.

What route number will be listed on the traffic alerts?

The primary route number will be the only route number listed. For example, I-84 will be the route number listed for the highway from Boise to Mountain Home because I-84 is the primary route number. US-20, US-26 and US-30 are secondary route numbers for this highway so they will notbe listed.
There are two exceptions to this:
Ø The highway from Shoshone to Carey will be listed as US-26 although the primary route number is US-93.
Ø The highway from Carey to Arco will be listed as US-20 although the primary route number is US-93.
These exceptions are necessary because the 511 traveler services system does not currently handle the duplicate mile posting on the primary routes. A future version of the software should be able to accommodate the mile posting and then these highways will be listed correctly on the traffic alerts.

Will the alerts make it past my internet service provider's spam filter?

You should take appropriate action with your internet service provider to make sure all alerts get through to you. It may be very difficult for you to know if only a few messages are being stopped. Different internet service providers require different procedures to guarantee that their spam filter will recognize an address as legitimate. Some require that you add the originating address to your address book. Other providers require that you add the originating address to a "white" (allow) list.
