PLAN

ABATEMENT PLAN

The formal abatement plan can be viewed by clicking this link.  There are four primary items to the current plan that is being developed.  The primary components of the abatement plan are public education, application of an adulticide through aerial spraying and fogging, and application of a larvicide in targeted bodies of water.

The education component of the plan involves educating the public on how to reduce their risk of becoming infected by West Nile Virus and what measure they can take to combat mosquito breeding.  There is information provided through the link located below.

An adulticide is a chemical agent intended to kill mosquitoes in the adult (flying) stage.   Application of an adulticide will necessarily involve the introduction of chemical agents into the air. A larvicide refers to a chemical agent intended to kill mosquitoes in the larval stage.  Mosquito larvae are immature mosquitoes that live in water before maturing into flying adults.   Application of a larvicide involves the introduction of chemical agents to those bodies of water that are likely breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
